Director, Communications & Engagement


The Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) guides ongoing and future initiatives in the development and implementation of a seamless health system for our communities.  As one of Ontario’s 14 LHINs, we manage the planning and performance of the health care system, and bring greater accountability and leadership as it changes and evolves.   LHINs are the only organizations in Ontario that bring together health care partners from the following sectors – hospitals, community care, community support services, community mental health and addiction, community health centres, long-term care and primary care – to develop innovative, collaborative solutions leading to more timely access to high-quality services for the residents of Ontario, and through the Mississauga Halton LHIN for our local communities.


The Director, Communications & Engagement provides vision and strategic leadership, direction and oversight for Communications & Stakeholder Relations, and Governance and Engagement, including a priority focus on patient and caregiver engagement, within the Mississauga Halton LHIN.  Specific accountabilities include the development, implementation and evaluation of communications strategies and plans, services and products, and establishing a framework for stakeholder engagement that includes patients and caregivers, primary care, health service providers, and the broader community in the Mississauga Halton LHIN.  Working closely with the Executive and Leadership Teams, ensures the integration and coordination of stakeholder engagement and activities in support of stakeholder relations activities. This position is responsible for providing strategic advice and governance support to the Board of Directors including the ‘Governance to Governance’ function.  The role supports the VP in establishing and implementing a collaborative governance framework within the LHIN that enables integrated health system leadership, engaging executive leadership in capacity development for their organizations, partnership commitment and a system focus on a shared regional vision.  The role works closely with the Director, Strategy, Integration and Planning to leverage strategic communications and engagement as catalyst for Patients First transformation. The role also includes oversight of activities and plans for Health Equity, French Language Services and Indigenous populations.  


The ideal candidate will possess an optimal combination of the following experience, skills & qualities:


  • University degree in a related field (e.g. Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Public Affairs), or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s degree preferred
  • Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation and member in good standing with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years related experience with three (3) to five (5) years in a senior management role
  • Broad and extensive public relations/corporate communications and governance experience in a multi-stakeholder environment, preferably in the public sector
  • Solid background in integrating large, complex communications initiatives in a change environment
  • Excellent knowledge of current communication theories, disciplines, techniques, best practices and planning methods
  • Strong knowledge of media relations and public events planning.
  • Track record for Innovation and building high performing teams
  • Out of the box transformative thinking that will move the Patients First agenda towards delivering on a fully integrated health care system within the region.
